STATEMENT BY SENATOR THANH HAI NGO
ABOUT THE VIETNAMESE LUNAR NEW YEAR

Senator Thanh Hai Ngo today issued the following statement to mark the celebration of the Vietnamese Lunar New Year:

“I am pleased to extend my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating the Vietnamese Lunar New Year in Canada.”

“This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Boat People’s journey to freedom and their resettlement in Canada after the fall of Saigon in 1975. For four decades now, we have proudly defended freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. These are values that are exemplified by the Vietnamese-Canadian community, which has faced many challenges, and which now celebrates a shared heritage as an integral part of Canadian society. This year is an excellent opportunity to share our rich Vietnamese traditions and customs with all Canadians, as well as to express our gratitude to Canada for its humanitarian tradition in welcoming countless refugees with open arms during and after the Vietnam War.”

“I offer you and your families my best wishes for health, happiness and prosperity in the Year of the Goat.”

DÉCLARATION DU SÉNATEUR THANH HAI NGO
SUR LE NOUVEL AN LUNAIRE VIETNAMIEN

Le sénateur Thanh Hai Ngo a fait la déclaration suivante pour marquer le Nouvel An lunaire vietnamien :

« J’ai le plaisir de souhaiter mes meilleurs vœux à tous ceux qui célèbrent le Nouvel An lunaire vietnamien au Canada. »

« Cette année marque le 40^e anniversaire du parcours des réfugiés de la mer vers la liberté et de leur rétablissement au Canada après la chute de Saigon en 1975. Depuis maintenant quatre décennies, nous défendons fièrement la liberté, la démocratie, les droits de la personne et la primauté du droit. Ce sont des valeurs que chérit la communauté canado-vietnamienne, qui a relevé de nombreux défis et qui célèbre maintenant un héritage commun à titre de partie intégrante de la société canadienne. Cette année constitue une excellente occasion de partager nos riches traditions et coutumes vietnamiennes avec tous les Canadiens aussi bien que d’exprimer notre gratitude envers le Canada pour sa tradition humanitaire et le chaleureux accueil qu’il a réservé à d’innombrables réfugiés durant et après la guerre du Vietnam. »

« Je vous souhaite, à vous et à vos proches, mes meilleurs vœux de bonheur, de santé et de prospérité en cette année de la chèvre. »
